DNA Sample Collection

Sample collection is simple and easy using the Beta Self-Collection™ Kit. Our kit contains the following items:

• A set of four buccal swabs for each tested party
• Buccal swab envelopes for enclosing each tested party’s sample
• Business Reply envelope for shipping all samples back to the lab
• Detailed instructions

Here’s a preview of what you need to do to collect samples:

Step 1: Label the buccal swab envelope.

• It’s best to label an envelope and collect samples for one person at a time, to avoid confusion.

Step 2: Swab the inner cheek.

1. Take one swab and rub it against the inside cheek lining, rotating the swabs while covering as much of the cheek area as possible (do not rub one spot over and over).
2. Place the used swab in the labeled envelope. Do not put the swabs back into plastic wrapper; doing so may cause molds to grow and destroy the DNA sample.
3. Do the above procedures with another swab for the same cheek, then use the remaining two swabs for the other cheek.
4. Seal the envelope when all 4 swabs have been used.

Complete Steps 1 and 2 for the other tested parties.

Step 3: Package and mail the collection kit.

1. Place the swab envelopes into the collection kit.
2. Enclose the collection kit in the Business Reply envelope provided.
3. Mail the kit to our laboratory.
