Mutations are random changes in the DNA that may be caused by environmental agents such as UV, carcinogens, and other toxic chemicals. These mutations sometimes cause an unexpected result in about 2% of the cases we test. Such mutations do not have any health or physical implications, but they may complicate the results of a paternity test. In case of mutation, we can perform additional testing and statistical analysis to accurately determine paternity.
