Siblingship tests determine whether two individuals are biological siblings. There are two types of siblingship tests. In a
full siblingship test,
the individuals know that they share one parent (usually the mother) and are taking the test to see if they also share the other parent (usually the father). In a
half siblingship test,
they know that they do not share one parent and are taking the test to see if they share the other parent.
By testing for a sibling relationship, you can indirectly determine paternity if the alleged father is deceased or unavailable for testing. Siblingship testing may also be used when possible siblings have been separated at an early age by circumstances such as adoption.
Tested Parties
The two potential siblings are tested. We encourage the participation of any known parents to aid in the analysis. Siblingship tests can be complicated, depending on who are available for testing. The laboratory staff at Beta Paternity is one of the few that have the expertise and experience required for accurate siblingship testing.
Sample Collection
We will send you a Beta Self-Collection™ kit containing everything you need to collect DNA samples.
Sample collection
is painless and simple. You will use buccal swabs, which are like long cotton swabs, to collect loose cheek cells by rubbing against the inner cheek. For more details, please visit the
sample collection page
.
If you require a test for immigration, Social Security, or other legal purposes, please visit the
legal testing option
page. While convenient and private, sample collection using the Beta Self-Collection™ kit does not follow the Chain of Custody collection procedure needed for DNA test results to be accepted in courts and other government agencies. This procedure requires you to go to an appointment to have your samples collected by an unbiased third party, usually a trained professional.
